The process of reiki is rather amazing: Reiki treats holistically, and goes to the deepest levels of a person’s being, i.e. to the origin of illnesses. Reiki activates the receiver’s body’s natural ability to heal itself.
What Process to Expect During Your Reiki Session
The person receiving Reiki lays fully clothed on a massage table or sits on a massage chair.
The practitioner holds her hands on / above the recipient. The healing energy comes thru the Reiki Practitioner’s hands.
The Practitioner work thru a sequence of hand positions. The client’s body then draws the amount of energy that is required for healing.
Your Experience of the Process of Reiki
Reiki is experienced differently by different people, as we all have different conditions. Most recipients enter a deeply relaxed state of peace. Besides this, people have felt cold, pulsating heat, or a tingling sensation during a session. Some muscles may twitch.
Reiki penetrates through the clothing, linens, and wood of the table. Unlike massage, Reiki does not involve skin manipulation.
So, while the healing energy comes thru Reiki Practitioners’ hands, the client is the actual healer.

Method Sounds So Simple?
The Reiki process is simple, yet powerful. People usually let go of any initial skepticism after experiencing Reiki firsthand. Then, many people come back for more Reiki for its relaxing and other benefits.
What to Expect After Your Reiki Session
In some people, chronic or acute pain can diminish or completely vanish. For others, allergies and other infirmities disappear.
Having said this, also consider that many troublesome conditions were not created overnight.
While it may happen, don’t expect a recovery overnight. Instead, arrange with your Reiki Practitioner to obtain a series of Reiki sessions. Healing takes commitment and time.
Reiki Process Over Time
How Many Reiki Sessions Do You Need? Just one treatment can make a difference, although I offer clients a treatment plan.
The Canadian Reiki Association recommends:
“To begin with, three or four sessions over ten to fourteen days are recommended to remove entrenched blocks in your energy system; then once a week or once every two weeks until the issue has resolved.
You will begin to notice some improvement after the first session.
Disease generally begins in the energy field so if we keep our subtle bodies healthy using Reiki, and our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to remain active and whole.”
After-Care: What To Do After Your Reiki Session
Immediately after your Reiki session, we suggest you take some time to enjoy the deep state of relaxation and to slowly come back to full awareness. (You might be too relaxed to drive, for example, till say 20 minutes afterwards.)
Expect the body to detoxify. You might have to go to the bathroom more frequently, or your skin might release toxins. To help the detoxification process, as a Reiki recipient, you should drink lots of water during & after treatment, and over the following few days. You may also want to take more rest.
Awareness can be a vital component in realizing wellness. To facilitate the healing process, I suggest my clients to observe themselves, to notice their thoughts, their behavior, their reactions, their feelings, their energy, their pain levels, their issues. Many notice an immediate pain reduction. An increase in energy and alertness, and a feeling of overall well-being may be noticed as well.
Reiki reinforces a receiver’s ability to take responsibility for his/her own life, and helps to make necessary changes in attitude and lifestyle to promote a happy, healthy life.
