‘I love myself as I love others’ is in my mind, and in my heart, the most central affirmation you can recite to promote world healing. Let me give a very quick answer, focusing on 4 aspects of this affirmation.

Aspect 1 of this affirmation: SELF LOVE

When you can actually love yourself, you are more than halfway there.

Effective method: stand in front of the mirror and recite the phrase: “ Hi cutie/handsome, I love you. I really love you, and adore everything about you.” Many times.

At first, your ego may / will protest with all your long-help mis-beliefs / obstacles to this expression of self-love. Say ‘thanks for sharing” to all those negative thoughts. Then, let these thoughts go.

Eventually, you will see yourself in the mirror, and the words will feel and sound really true: you love yourself.

IN THIS STATE OF SELF-LOVE, you will radiate love onto others. When feeling safe (which comes from self-love), you are in the best position to stretch out your helping hand, and to really give.

This really mean you will give more than you otherwise would. By giving more, you are usually building a better heart. You will usually also receive more love. And so it becomes a reciprocal process of exchanging more and more expressions of love.

Aspect 2 of this affirmation: ONENESS

By loving another as you love yourself, you are not differentiating between people. By starting to live this way, you would not kill a fly, because you are that fly. You would not hurt another person with your words, because you are that person. You’d treat all people equal, and ahhh…. instantly lots of previous problems in the world are resolved. Can you see where this is leading to? Don’t you just love it?!

By adding ‘Random Acts of Kindness’ to the concept of Oneness,

you are truly sprinkling goodness IN YOUR WORLD & THE WORLD AT LARGE.

Aspect 3 of this affirmation: HEALING ALL

By loving others, you have to extend your awareness of others. You have to both see others, and learn about the needs of others. This way, you can give what is in fact needed, where needed, when needed.

Ignorance is not bliss. Ignorance is ignorance. Communion is Bliss.

Too often we live in our own cocoon of wellness. Often, we simply are not aware of the suffering of others. Oh yes, me too.

The solutions are simple: Listen, observe and learn. This is a process taking a life-time.

While you listen,

you don’t talk.

When not talking

Your mouth can smile.

How good is that?!

Aspect 4: ALLOWING THE INNER-SELF TO SHINE

By letting go of the ‘ego’ (that bit of conscious thinking that has those frequent limiting thoughts….), and opening up the stage of the sub-conscious which is finally talked to through the repeated ‘mantra’ in the most loving ways, you are allowing this inner-you to shine through.

I would like to end this article and say:

I love you all, readers, students, friends.

Some people wonder why I promote Louise Hay & the Hay house on my website. Well, the answer is simple. She’s my mother, an archetypal mother that is. Her book alone has helped me personally way beyond all other self-discovery and transformation books out there. ‘You can heal your life.’ I now have a copy of the video… will review it … as my Mother’s day gift of time, precious time to watch a lovely video. I’ve seen the trailer and I’m looking forward t it. Click on the image on the right, and you get to see the trailer too….

Just now the Hay house sent me an email about one of her authors, Cheryl Richardson’s recent adventure asking mothers what they’d like to receive for mother’s day to make them feel most loved. This is what she wrote:

“Here are some examples of answers I received:

** Breakfast in bed and a clean house.

** A photo book of my kids.

** Anything handmade – memory books, mugs, home dvds, etc. – something that takes thought and time which makes it more precious.

** Time alone with each of my grown children.

** A hammock or swing for the backyard so I can relax and listen to the birds or read a book.

** A day of pampering – massage, manicure, or pedicure and a nice meal at the end.

** To go for a picnic with my family. It celebrates me and Mother Earth at the same time.

** I’d love to have the whole family take over the chores for one day. I don’t want to be given flowers hurriedly picked up at the gas station. Just let me be me for a day.

** A day at the spa with my mom.

** Quiet time, a new journal, and a cup of good tea.

** A day with my husband and kids in which we’re all kind, patient, and loving with one another. Blazing those smiling, loving faces into my mind would be the best!

** I would love to hear the top ten things my children have appreciated about me which have helped them.

As you can see, many of these gift ideas are simple and inexpensive.

Things like “something handmade,” or “to know I’m appreciated,” were repeatedly mentioned, as was the need for help around the house. The one gift that seemed most important to woman was quality time alone.”.

Cheryl also has a new book out, called ‘Extreme Self Care’. It’s a book about extraordinary mothering and it’s something we all need to learn how to do (for ourselves and each other). In her practical, action-oriented program Cheryl Richardson offers you 12 strategies to transform your life one month at a time. The tools and resources contained within the pages are the key to sustainable success in living a soulful life. It may just be the most powerful gift you could give to someone you love.

In my Reiki practice, nowadays I use healing incense or aromatherapy essential oil in an oil burner to complement the Reiki healing. Sometimes I use nothing, but that’s not very often.

Today my intuition suggested to use Myrtle for my private Reiki 1 attunement session, together with a pre-mixed blend for stress release (which also contains some myrtle as well as other oils).

Guess what? When my client student arrived, I learned that she had been plagued with allergies. And she’s been holding lots of tension in her body. Such joy. A perfect blend for her.

I usually use the Reiki energy, i.e. my inner-voice when I turn on the Reiki, to determine which essential oils are best for my clients to complement their treatments. Of course, I don’t have each and every oil in my cabinet, but it holds many of the commonly useful ones.

What’s nice about essential oils is that they can be very effectively used at home. I often refer clients to a local supplier with suggestions or even the name of an aromatherapy blend in hand. Aromatherapy is safe for most people, although many are commonly known to be inappropriate for pregnant women. At least always be cautious, read the fine print and consult the staff in your local aromatherapy store. For internal use, always consult a doctor.

When you are shopping for yourself while you are healthy, not on medication nor pregnant, you can let your own noise do the selection for you. Usually, what your body needs is attractive to you. So, if you are really liking the citrus flavors, you’re in for an energy boosting oil, etc. Each essential oil has its own therapeutic values. You can use blends to best address a common issues, such as headaches, or low energy levels.

Today I want to showcase myrtle, an essential oil that is versatile in its healing power.

“The Miracle of Myrtle”

Article by Mabel Dugmore

“Myrtle has been conventionally used to treat
coughs, bronchitis and other respiratory infections.”

“Myrtle is the nickname for a family of shrubs and trees collectively known as Myrtaceae. They are almost entirely located in tropical regions, particularly in America and Australia. Myrtle can be found in the Mediterranean, North Africa, and Iran as well.

The Tree

Myrtle is distinguished by evergreen leaves that contain aromatic volatile oils. Many varieties of myrtle produce flashy blossoms, gums, and resins. The tree produces black berries which, along with the leaves, are used particularly for aromatherapy.

Health Advantages of Myrtle
In as far back as ancient Greece, people cherished the application of myrtle. Greek athletes were said to have worn wreaths of evergreen myrtle leaves during the Olympics. Ancient civilizations believed that myrtle was a symbol of immortality, and they used it in love potions and as treatment for various ailments.

In the era of the Roman Empire, myrtle was used to treat urinary and respiratory ailments. Egyptians used the plant to treat nervous afflictions. French women drank tea made from crushed myrtle leaves, believing that it would help to preserve their youthful appearance and overall vigor. Some actually believed myrtle to hold a cure for cancer, but little evidence was found to prove the theory.

Myrtle has been conventionally used to treat coughs, bronchitis and other respiratory infections. The astringent properties of myrtle have also earned the reputation for promoting good digestion, treating urinary tract disorders, and preventing wound infections. Recent laboratory studies suggest that the herb contains anti-inflammatory substances, making it a viable astringent compound. This finding accounts for the plant’s enduring popularity as a wound and cough treatment.

There are other health benefits of myrtle. It is believed to be anti-infective, and can be used as a tonic to hasten the healing process. Healers in Middle Eastern countries have traditionally used myrtle as a treatment for diabetes.

The 1980s saw scientists putting the myrtle herb under the microscope in an attempt to identify the active ingredients that lends it its various medicinal properties. Results of one study indicated that extract from the herb can decrease blood sugar in mice. This explains the association associating myrtle with diabetes. However, there is still no concrete proof that the herb is safe to use and effective for people who have the disease.

Myrtle Extract

Myrtle extract is created from plant’s leaves and seeds. Most tests have shown positive results if the plant extract is taken orally and in liquid form. A standard dose is usually around one to two milliliters of the essential oil daily. Be sure that you ask your doctor first before taking it.

Although uncommon, topical myrtle extract formulations can also be used. Again, be sure to use this herbal treatment only under your doctor’s supervision.

There are two types of myrtle, and it’s important that you do not confuse the two. Myrtus communis is known as “true” myrtle, and is the plant described here. The other variety, called “Madagascar Myrtle” (Eugenia jambolana), is a completely different plant and has entirely different effects on the body.

Myrtle is believed to work well with other herbs and nutritional supplements. However, it should not be used if you are taking insulin or oral sulfonylureas. The herb may increase the levels of blood glucose, and reduce the effects of your medications.”

One of my clients showed me an excellent new book, DailyOM: Inspirational Thoughts for a Happy, Healthy, and Fulfilling Day. One of the exercises in there caught my eye. It was called a ‘Surrender box’. When I read the little story, I discovered that the concept was a variation of what I call my ‘Healing box’ (or ‘free distant Reiki box’).

My Reiki Healing Box

As a Reiki Master I receive far more individual (free) Reiki healing requests than that I have hours in the day. Even if I were to work 24 hrs a day, it would be impossible to help them all. Requests come from all over the world, and often from third world countries where funds for treatment are limited. So, I have created a ‘healing box’ to allow me to send Reiki to everyone in the healing box simultaneously. Yes, free Reiki is in demand.

My healing box is a golden box. It has a place on my altar next to my Buddha, although it can often be found on my nightstand. I attend to its content often early in the morning. In my healing box are many little cards. Each card has a person’s name, below which I write the issue for which healing is requested. Sometimes there are several issues. I date them. Usually cards stay in there for a few weeks, however some seem to stay ‘forever’.

I also include my own wishes, worries, any personal development goals I am working on, any physical issue I am addressing for myself, etc. Also, not to be forgotten, are family members and friends who are ill or otherwise challenged in life and who could sure use a Reiki energy boost.

Every so often (i.e. every few days, or sometimes twice daily) I read through all the cards in the box and send distant Reiki to all people in it, all at once, to help them heal. As I hear back from people with their healing progress, and using my own intuition, I remove some of the cards afterwards as they are ‘done’.

Your Surrender Box

I am sure not the only one with an overflowing brain and an endless ‘to do’ list. I’m sure many people have times in their lives that they have too many things to do and too many worries for the brain to work through. A high school student may need to reschedule a dentist appointment, study for a big upcoming exam, work out a fight with a baby brother, and create a personal training schedule with the football coach ~ all on the same day. Too much thinking required.

The result is that their brain goes into overdrive. But actually, it should quiet down so that the subconscious can furnish all the answers.

So, I suggest everyone to create a personal healing box, or as DailyOM calls it ‘a surrender box’. Put all your worries, plans, dreams, and all your concerns in your box. Below each issue, write down an affirmation of exactly what you wish would happen, the way you want things to be, and add ‘for my highest good’. Then, ask the higher power, Universe, God for help and then TRUST that that help will be provided. In a way, you are giving yourself permission to stop holding on to all those details and to relax.

While you may think you’re not responsibly dealing with the issues, in fact, you are. Relaxation is a required state for healing. As such it is important, if you want to reach your goal and be successful quickly, to let go of worries asap and to be relaxed.

Being relaxed does not mean ‘non-action’. Instead, what usually happens is that ‘fortunate blessings’, amazing synchronicity occur. Furthermore, you will have blissful little insights that mean shortcuts to resolving your problems. Take action based on your inner guidance. Follow your intuitive power and you will heal, be well and succeed realizing your dreams and tasks.

Try it.

Has this ever happened to you? You’re in the midst of a million errands and you suddenly stop mid task and think, “What the heck am I doing? I don’t want to be this busy!”

Then, you find yourself fantasizing about long, uninhabited white sandy beaches with swaying palm trees, turquoise waters and warm balmy breezes. Or, you leave your desk, take a long walk and fantasize about what it would be like to pack up, leave and begin a simpler life.

However, you don’t want to let anyone else know you want to slow down or you might be considered to be a failure, loser, slacker – you get the idea. After all, we all wear our busyness like a badge of honor and he who is the busiest is often thought of as the most successful.

For example, have you ever had this conversation?

“Hi, how are you?”

“Great, but man, I’m busy – there isn’t enough hours in the day!”

“Yah, I know what you mean. I’m so busy that…”

What happens when the conversation takes a different turn? (I had this happen to me when I asked someone about their job)

“Hi, Jim…what are you up to right now? How’s that job?”

“Nothing…just hanging around.”

Suddenly, I found myself back-peddling to come up with witty conversation because I was secretly uneasy that he had nothing substantial and stressful to tell me. What was I thinking? I wrote a book about slowing down – I should’ve patted him on the back. That’s how brainwashed we are.

Here are some time-inspired ideas to help you temporarily slow down, relax and still achieve your goals.

1.	Be a Teenager: (escape alone on a regular basis)

Remember when you crossed the threshold from being a little kid to a young teenager? The first thing you did was establish your independence by pulling away from your family and taking time to be by yourself. You spent time with friends, discovered music you liked, hid in your room and attempted to make sense of yourself and the world.

We lose that when we work, have families, run businesses and get involved in a million activities. We spread our resources thin and try to be all things to all people.

New ideas come when you take time away to be by yourself so you can determine your needs, your life direction, business direction, etc. Albert Einstein, Thomas Edison, Leonardo da Vinci, Georgia O’Keefe and other amazing people accomplished much more when they took private time to be alone.

2.	Create Time Boundaries (like the Terminator)

Before Arnold Schwarzenneger became the governor of California, he and his wife, Maria Shriver, would create a time boundary so they could have three uninterrupted hours with their children.

The put their answering machine on and no one could reach them from 4pm to 7pm. This was their sacred time. This may have changed now that Arnold is governor, but you get the idea.

Where could you create a time boundary? Start with work. For example, if clients reach you 24/7 then you are not in control of your time or your company; you are letting other people run you. You need to establish clear contact times such as those clients can only reach you from 8am to 6 pm Monday to Friday and Saturday until noon. After that, only other times if there’s an emergency.

This is the most challenging rule to implement for small business owners and entrepreneurs. You’re afraid you’ll lose business or insult someone but true leaders will respect your rules (and already practice these ideas).

3.	Take a mini holiday (15 minutes to do something fun)

Every day has hidden pockets of time you can use for something you enjoy.

I’ve spoken with hundreds of people and the most successful people find time to do something that gives them joy. They might have a challenging time doing it every day, but they try.

One business person swims laps before work, another person practices on his guitar. It doesn’t matte what you do as long as it’s something that makes you happy. If you’re happy, you’ll be energized and your home and work like will improve.

4.	Have a time free day (no wristwatch for at least a couple of hours)

If you don’t wear a watch, skip past this tip but if you can’t live without a wristband, try this escape.

Choose a time when you’re not working and do this: Remove your wristwatch and get through the day without it. If you’re like me, it’ll bother you for the first hour or two as you’ll want to know what time it is. After a while, the day may seem longer because you won’t have a wristwatch to guide you. And, you may feel less stressed because you’re not racing the clock.

5.	Take 10 minutes and do absolutely nothing (but listen to your thoughts)

If you don’t have the patience to sit still (and I admit I find this a challenge) do what I do and grab a pen and paper. Start writing down the first thoughts that come to mind and keep going for 10 minutes if you want. Your ideas will come to you and you may have a revelation; it’s hard to have new ideas when you’re constantly rushing and stressed.

6.	Get physical (get your body moving)

I don’t know about you, but I’ve joined gyms, worked out for a few months and then quit out of frustration for not fulfilling my goal of working out three times a week for an hour each time. We’re not stupid, we all know that exercise will help us handle stress, lose weight, feel happier, and so on…but that doesn’t make it easier for us to be active.

The best way to be active is to say, ‘I will do some form of exercise every day or every other day. It might be 10 minutes but at least it will be something.’

People quit exercise programs because they start from being inactive to trying to train for a triathalon (or close to this). Would a baby go from crawling to jogging? No. Why should we start with an intense program?

They key to success is to gradually increase your time for exercise and to make it easy to do so.

Exercise is one of the greatest stress releasers and it makes you look good and helps you live longer. Even if you only have 10 minutes to spare, work it into your schedule.

7.	Get out (that is – get outside)

For most of us, we spend our days in air-conditioned offices under artificial lighting and we wonder why we’re irritable. All winter our stress levels climb and they escalate just before spring. We shouldn’t be surprised.

We’re the only creatures on earth that spend so much time indoors and we forget that we’re animals. We call ourselves civilized but I wonder how civilized we are when we’re caged in a cubicle with a computer in front of us for eight hours a day?

There’s nothing better than the sound of waves lapping on the shoreline, a walk through grass with bare feet, a picnic on a bluff, a swim in a river on a stifling hot day…

It’s more of a challenge to enjoy the outdoors when it’s below freezing, but when the temperature rises, you need to find any way you can to ‘escape’ and enjoy the great outdoors.

If you practice all of some of these escapes, your stress will be minimized, you may come up with new and innovative ideas for your life and work and you’ll stop rushing and start a new trend. Imagine that – a slowing trend! You won’t need to stop the world, the world will be inspired by you.

Life isn’t the sweetest candy. Sometimes, when I feel like the world is just too heavy, I look around and find people who continued to live fascinating and wonderful lives. And then thoughts come popping into my mind like bubbles from nowhere – “How did their life become so adorably sweet? How come they still can manage to laugh and play around despite a busy stressful life?” Then I pause and observed for awhile… I figured out that maybe, they start to work on a place called ‘self’.

So, how does one become genuinely happy? Step 1 is to love yourself.

My theology professor once said that “loving means accepting.” To love oneself means to accept that you are not a perfect being, but behind the imperfections must lie a great ounce of courage to be able to discover ways on how to improve your repertoire to recover from our mistakes.

Genuine happiness also pertains to contentment. When you are contented with the job you have, the way you look, with your family, your friends, the place you live in, your car, and all the things you now have – truly, you know the answer to the question “how to be genuinely happy.”

When we discover a small start somewhere from within, that small start will eventually lead to something else, and to something else. But if you keep questioning life like it has never done you any good, you will never be able to find genuine happiness.

I believe that life is about finding out about right and wrong, trying and failing, wining and losing. These are things that happen as often as you inhale and exhale. Failure, in a person’s life has become as abundant and necessary as air. But this should not hinder us from becoming happy.

How to be genuinely happy in spite all these? I tell you… every time you exert effort to improve the quality of life and your being, whether it is cleaning up your room, helping a friend, taking care of your sick dog, fail on board exams and trying again, life gives you equivalent points for that.

Imagine life as a big score board like those which are used in the NFLs. Every time you take a step forward, you make scoring points. Wouldn’t it be nice to look at that board at the end of each game and think to yourself “Whew! I got a point today. I’m glad I gave it a shot.”, instead of looking at it all blank and murmur “Geez, I didn’t even hit a score today. I wish I had the guts to try out. We could have won!” and then walk away.

Genuine happiness isn’t about driving the hottest Formula 1 car, nor getting the employee of the year award, earning the highest 13th month pay, or beating the sales quota. Sometimes, the most sought after prizes in life doesn’t always go to the fastest, the strongest, the bravest or not even the best. So, how do you become genuinely happy? Every one has his own definition of ‘happiness’. Happiness for a writer may mean launching as many best selling books as possible. Happiness for a basketball rookie may mean getting the rookie of the year award. Happiness for a beggar may mean a lot of money. Happiness for a business man may mean success. So, really now, how do we become genuinely happy? Simple. You don’t have to have the best things in this world. Its about doing and making the best out of every single thing. When you find yourself smiling at your own mistake and telling your self “Oh, I’ll do better next time”, you carry with you a flame of strong will power to persevere that may spread out like a brush fire. You possess a willingness to stand up again and try – that will make you a genuinely happy person.

When you learn to accept yourself and your own faults. You pass step 1 in the project “how to become genuinely happy”. For as long as you know how to accept others, you will also be accepted. For as long as you love and know how to love, you will receive love ten fold back.

Again, throw me that same question “how to become genuinely happy?”. I’ll refer you to a friend of mine who strongly quoted- “Most of us know that laughter is the best medicine to life’s aches and pain. But most of us don’t know that the best kind of laughter is laughter over self. Coz then you don’t just become happy… you become free.”

However, sometimes, our thoughts are not the cause of our illness. There are times that our illness is caused by toxins in the environment, a result of genetics, or a myriad of different situational factors.

What does this mean for our inward search for healing? First, when we look at ourselves inwards, we should have an open mind, and not to judge nor blame ourselves for our illness. Our search should be self-esteem building, not eroding. In our reflections, we could consider how the illness can inspire us or perhaps even be a form of spiritual support to us.

Furthermore, when we look at our beliefs, thinking, and resulting behavioral patterns, we should seek a balance. When we ask “What’s positively and what’s negatively contributing to our health?’ our search inwards can help us discover strengths on all levels: physical, mental, emotional and spiritual. As we fill up on our strengths and the wonderful attributes that we possess, our illness will properly fall into place, and so will any ‘bad habit’ thoughts and beliefs that may have fueled our illness. Within this new healing context, healing is probable.

Questions For Your Self-Examination
1. Are you searching for what you possibly did to ‘deserve’ your illness but could not find it?
2. Do you believe that till you can grasp the ‘bad habit’ that caused your illness, you can’t heal?
3. Do you spend too much time thinking about negative experiences from the past, believing this helps you heal?

When answering these questions, consider what’s real – not a healing myth.

This article describes a Neuro Linquistic Programming (NLP) exercise to help your raise your self-esteem and to find your own path of self-actualization. This is a self-help exercise you can do at home.

NLP: 5 Steps to Reinforce Your Identity

Did you know that NLP has numerous tools to help you increase your self-esteem and reinforce your identity? Some people may not know who they are, some are aware they have a potential of becoming more and some are already on the path of realizing their potential and on the way to self-actualization.

I’m going to show you an NLP exercise that will help you reinforce your identity, increase your self-awareness and enter the path of self-actualization.

This NLP exercise has 5 steps. Follow these steps and you’ll become more centered in your life.

1. Imagine a line on the floor, going from left to right. It represents your life. On the left or the right is your past and the future is on the opposite direction. In the middle is the present time. Now relax and ask yourself this question: “Who am I?” some possible answers are: man, woman, parent, 45 years old, generous, patient, kind, sad, depressed etc.

2. Find your center. Your center is somewhere in your stomach or maybe within you in the chest area. It is something that when you feel it, you feel grounded, you feel that you’re here, in the present moment. You can also see your center if you can’t feel it. Can you see or feel it density, location, color? Does it move? Is it like a sphere, spinning?

3. Move a little bit in the room, your hand on your stomach if your center is in the stomach area. As you’re moving, feel your center, don’t lose sight of it.

4. Now, you’re going to walk on your time line. Step onto your time line, where you represented your present time. Walk toward your future, your hand still on the part of the body where you feel your center. Physically move on your time line toward your future.

5. Now that you have walked on your time line toward your future for the equivalent of 10 or 20 years, as you wish, walk backwards to the present time and feel how centered you become. And as you are finished and on the present, notice how changed you are because you feel more centered, more grounded.

You can create a sense of purpose that way, reinforce your identity, learn or re-learn how to be grounded and centered. By utilizing this NLP process, you can become unstoppable. This is a powerful exercise if you do it well.
