70% of women approaching menopause are affected by menopausal symptoms caused by changing hormonal levels in the female reproductive system. The most common symptoms of menopause are hot flashes, night sweats, irregular periods, loss of libido and vaginal dryness.

Most women notice early symptoms and signs while still having periods. Typically, in her early 40s, a woman experiences perimenopause: a gradually falling and fluctuating hormone levels. The menopausal transition usually lasts until her mid 50s, and menopause symptoms may last for this entire period, or, sometimes for the rest of a woman’s life.

Crystals as Natural Remedy for Menopause

The first few hour(s) after the occurance of new moon are the very best time to set down your intentions, wishes & vision for the upcoming month. I do this verbatim, every month, and even have a vision board to represent my inner most desires, wishes and vision for my life.

Some people make their New Moon Vision Boards entirely from magazine clippings, like a collage. Other are made entirely from sticky notes, while others are text embellished with roses, hearts, flowers, spirals, circles and other meaning symbols.

What is Tourmaline?

Tourmaline has been uses as a gem for over 2,000 years.  In physical terms, tourmaline is a borosilicate mineral of complex and variable composition. Tourmaline is the name given to the group of related minerals that all have essentially the same crystal structure, but that vary significantly in chemical composition and in some of their physical properties.

Another name for tourmaline is ‘schorl’. Tourmaline can be found in many countries such as the US, Brazil, Burma and Zimbabwe.

Unique Properties of Tourmaline

What is chemically special about tourmaline is that when it is heated, it obtains an electric charge. When charged, it attracts small objects such as hair or small pieces of paper.    It is this unique property that has resulted in scientific and industrial uses of tourmaline.

Black Tourmaline as Protector

Black tourmaline has strong protective properties, and can offer shielding from harmful emissions from electronic equipment, from psychic attack and it is said to protect from magic spells and curses in present and past lives.

Tourmaline as Healing Gem Stone

Tourmaline has been considered to heal physical and mental disorders as well as prevent death. It already was attributed such qualities back in the Middle Ages.

Black tourmaline has been known for its strong balancing properties to realize physical healing and health. It is said to aid a number of body systems, including the endocrine, immune and autonomic nervous systems. 

How does the black tourmaline work? It help your body towards homeostasis – the state when your body is working perfectly and everything is in balance. 

This mineral is considered to be an effective pain reliever, and can be used in the treatment of arthritis and back disorders.

Black Tourmaline as Mental Balancer

For mental/emotional healing, tourmaline appears to help enhance concentration, inspiration and sensitivity.  Further, it has been used to stimulate a proper balance between the left and right sides of the brain.

Black tourmaline is considered to also help in all kinds of other areas of our lives where a state of equilibrium is required, such as between play & work, ease & pain; or, inner- & outer- consciousnesses.

One of my sources referred to people in the healing profession specifically, stating that black tourmaline can be useful in balancing the healing and creativity energies required in the art of healing.

Black Tourmaline & Chakra Healing

As its strong back color indicates, black tourmaline is mostly associated with the root or base chakra. As such, it can be used to gain grounding. 

For example, in your healing practice, you can give your clients a black tourmaline stone to hold for a few minutes after their healing treatment, as tourmaline is said to rapidly dispels any ‘spacey’ feelings post treatment.  You can, of course, also use it yourself, after your meditation, or early in the morning, to quickly wake up.

Having said this, black tourmaline seems to absorb and dissipate negativity related the other chakras as well.  It is said to dispel a negative frame of mind (3rd eye chakra); dissolve negative emotions (heart chakra); and to help being free from irrational fear and panic (solar plexus chakra).   

Black Tourmaline, as a Lucky Stone

I have read that rubbing black tourmaline brings luck and happiness. When rubbed, it becomes charged with magnetic electricity and the luck intensifies.

Healing Tourmaline in Other Colors

The name ‘Tourmaline’ stands for ‘multi-colored’ in Sinhalese, and indeed, Tourmaline occurs in many colours besides black.  Other colors and color combinations of tourmaline are: pink, water melon (i.e. pink & green), green, and blue.  What is considered ‘pink tourmaline’ seem to actually range from light fluorescent light brown to an intense fuchsia pink to purple.

It is a stone that is found in abundance, and only its flawless, translucent varieties are cut as gemstones.  Particularly the pink and watermelon tourmaline gems are really exquisite! However, all healing stones work: rough ones, shiney, tumbled ones, as well as those cut into marvellous gems.

The color of the tourmaline reveals its healing properties.  

Using a Pendulum to Choose Your Healing Stone

Beware that tourmaline is deemed to be a powerful healing stone.  Everyone seems to react to Tourmaline differently (because we tend to be ‘out of balance’ a bit or a lot in  different ways.)

I suggest you use a crystal pendulum to choose the right healing stone for you.  If you have no pendulum at hand, contemplate individual stones, and sense how they make you feel.   Ask shop owners if you may hold them in your hand. Listen to your inner guidance to know which one feels right for you. Usually there is one in particular that says ‘yes’ to you.  Select the one you need carefully and it will be a faithful friend for you for the times to come.

Metaphysical Properties of Specifically Colored Tourmaline

Black Tourmaline	Said to absorb and give protection against negativity from both people and electrical & magnetic fields. It is also said to sharpen one’s wits, to enhance vitality and to give emotional stability.
Blue Tourmaline	Said to enhance one’s communication skills, intuition and spiritual perspective.
Green Tourmaline	Said to give success, prosperity and peaceful sleep.
Pink-Red-Purple Tourmaline	Said to inspire love, spirituality and creativity, and to give wisdom and enhance one’s willpower.
Watermelon Tourmaline (Pink & Green)	Said to be very effective in helping one to recover from emotional problems. Also all the properties of pink & green tourmalines.

I do and I’m glad that I do, as I see evidence of ‘magic’ (read ‘synchronicity by Divine intervention’) everywhere I go and look.

Today, I am completely rewriting my Reiki Empowerment Manual and it has taken up most of my day. Meanwhile, it is my intend to write more often (daily?) on this blog, so I need a quick and easy story to write for this evening. Then, ‘by pure chance’, I came across the perfect topic for an article today: random acts of kindness.

I was reminded of a situation in my business consulting years. Around the corner from the office, was the Hermes shop. Anybody who has heard of that brand, knows that whatever they have in there is both gorgeous and outrageously expensive. One Saturday, after having worked yet again an entire day overtime in the office, I decided it was time for a treat. When you work that hard, you deserve some pleasure, right?!

So, I went in the (ah-wow) Hermes store and asked the young lady behind the counter which ones were her favorite earrings. I figured this would be a good start looking for my personal extravaganza.

Well, the question changed her entire face and demeanor. She knew the answer. Walking straight to a particular drawer, she picked out a particular pair. Then she went on to tell me why these were the most gorgeous earrings in the shop. I was struck by the purity of her enthusiasm. She meant it, she absolutely adored these earrings, and could not stop talking about them.

She was right! They were beautiful, so I bought the earrings, these little over-the-top luxury indulgences. This was a huge treat!! To top it all of, I asked her to wrap them the best that she could as they were a present. She did and the present looked immaculate as she handed it to me. I smiled, said ‘Thank you’.

Then, gave it back to her.

I can’t remember the earrings, but I can remember her astonished and delighted reaction. Years later, when I had my own consulting practice, a client relayed me the story, now from the other side. When he confirmed that indeed it had been me in that Hermes store, he shared that the young girl in the shop had been his niece. I can’t recall all details, but her ‘lucky Saturday’ event seemed to have impacted her enough to decipher my name from my credit card bill and inspire her entire family with the story.

All I hoped for was her happy heart, but am thankful for her sharing. Because this is how random acts of kindness multiply.

Basic Chinese Astrology

In Chinese astrology, there is a sixty-year-cycle that consists of two sub-cycles.

The first cycle is the cycle of the ‘Heavenly Stem’, which rotates the elements of water, earth, fire, metal and wood, every two years. The first of these two years is yang, the next year is yin.

The second cycle of the ‘Earthly Branch’ rotates the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac signs: i.e. rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog, and boar.

What this means is that not all Ox-years are the same. In 2009, it will be a Year of the Ox, an Earth-year and a Yin-year.

The zodiac sign of the Ox (or cow or buffalo) symbolizes prosperity through fortitude and hard work. The major element in Ox is Earth. So it being the “Earth Ox”- year, the major focus in 2009 will be the earth/land/ground-related issues. I would say … root chakra!!! (oh,will I ever get away from this emphasis ….??!! I want to focus on my higher level chakras instead!!… ). And I’d say: WORLD HEALING is VITAL.

Yin represents the feminine principle of the yin/yang balance.

Earth is the land and the ground under our feet. The ground is very steady. It requires lots of energy to make it move. Certainly, it’s necessary that people put extra efforts and time to work on Earth-related problems.

Chinese astrology says the Earth season is the days between the seasons, i.e. the 18 days before each season. The Earth Cycle will repeat about every two and a half month. The total Earth days in a year is 72. Because Fire is the mother element of Earth, it is said that the strongest period of Earth is the 18-day before the season of Fall.

So, I’d say that we should have an increased focus on ‘We Are One World Healing’, and get more people to work with us to help heal planet Earth. That seems very important.

Our Year of the Ox

OK. Let’s get our minds around a year of hard work, and get set to enjoy it. When I envision an ox, he’s carrying a wagon or a plow breaking new grounds, row after row, in a very organized manner. Single line, straight ahead.

I suggest we embrace the powers of the ox this year: methodical, strong, and focused (i.e. good-flavored ‘stubbornness’). I can be ox-like for a year, can you?

Chinese New Year: a New Moon, a New YOU.

At present we’re between the Western New Year (January 1), and the Chinese New Year (and the New Moon Day, January 26). Now is the time for change to bring more enlightenment and light in your life. And so, we should be ox-like in going for this.

What do you sense should be your direction & focus? Now is the time to get clarity about what you want and need in your life. What are your plans? Now is the time to finalize them in actionable detail.

It appears that the Year of the Earth Ox won’t allow you to dillydally. When the 26th of January comes around, we will be living in a time of by-passing the ‘I’m going to do it’-phase and plunge straight into ‘this is what I’m doing’-mode (although we do get 2 weeks easing into things…).

We Heal ‘Us’ and Help Eachother

While this is apparently not the ‘sit around and talk about it’- year, I feel that it nonetheless should be a year of helping each other, and encouraging each other, to be true to themselves and to focus on what is best for them.

Did you know that the word ‘change’ is part of the word ‘archangel’, i.e. Archangels help you change for a living.

How to Use Crystals for Meditation

Crystal Meditation is meditation using crystals.

Step 1. Intuitively Select a Gemstone from your Collection.
The word ‘intuitively’ is important because by instinct we know which crystal holds the energy we most need to work with. (Often after I pick a rock instinctively, and after my meditation session, I research the healing powers of that particular gem and learn that yes, the qualities that pertain to the gemstone are perfectly related to what is going on in my life.)

Step 2. Befriend the Crystal.
Get to know the crystal. Feel its shape and weight. Observe its colors, shapes, angles and sparkles. Then, close your eyes.

Step 3. Visualize
Repeat the examination of step 2, now with your eyes closed. Visualize the crystal in your mind.

Step 4. Be Receptive
Now be receptive to any impressions you get from the crystal. Depending on how your intuition is developed, you may hear messages, see images or receive feelings or sense otherwise in your mind. Emotions and smells can come out of nowhere.

Step 5. Learn & Grow
While you are enjoying the process, consider the messages contained in the impressions. Make it your intention to have the messages be there for your healing.

Favorite Crystals for Crystal Meditation

A. As said above, the best crystal is the one you intuitively picked.

B. Alternatively, you may wish to work with particular chakras. In this case, choose a rock that best resognate with the particular chakra. Often the color of the crystal corresponds to the color of the chakra. State your intention of focus, and then again, let your intuition find the rock for you.

C. If no crystal says ‘pick me, pick me’, consider clear quartz and make it your intention that this crystal is a proxi for the stone that you need, but that’s not in your collection.

So, it’s time to address money again on this blog. Money, wealth, abundance, fear of not having enough, etc, indicate a root chakra imbalance.
Once this chakra has been brought into balance, I observe that we find it easier to address higher level chakras right after that.

  Thought to double the intention of its wearer, i.e., it serves as a psychic amplifier.

• Emerald

  Also: draws new friends. Relieves exhaustion. Balances emotions. Gives feeling of freedom, expansion, and space, like a walk in nature. Some mention it as useful in locating hidden “treasure” and for money spells.

• Mother of Pearl
  Attracts prosperity. protective stone. heighten intuition, psychic sensitivity, and imagination. Sea shells were once used as money in many parts of the world, including Polynesia. Because of this, mother of pearl is often associated with money and riches and talismans to bring wealth are sometimes made with this gemstone.

• Opal
  Opal is a stone of inspiration which enhances imagination and creativity. It helps one release inhibitions and enhances memory.   Pyrite holds the energies of the Golden Sun within it. It makes wonderful center stone in this grid because the cluster like pieces of Pyrite bounce the energy in such a happy way around the room.

  Stone of wise choices and noble decisions. Particularly good for helping to make wise financial decisions. The power of ruby is in its encouragement to follow your bliss and to realize your dreams, helping you to change your world.

• Tiger Eye
  Stone of self-discipline, qualities of the tiger: patient, focused, determined, alert, with perfect timing and slow, deliberate actions. Excellent grounding stone! If you need to make some changes in your life, this is the stone for you!
  This stone is best suited to earthy people. It has been used to stimulate wealth and abundance, and to enhance the stability required to maintain wealth and keep it without sub coming to wealth’s “earthly temptations” of greed and abuse of power.

• Topaz
  Stone of success in all endeavors; inspire and assist in “Lighting the divine light of imagination”. Topaz acts as a catalytic trigger, and activates the laws of attraction and manifestation of your desires. It helps you to have faith in the universes desire to help you, prompting receptivity and willingness to act. It helps one to creatively change ones personal world. Silver enhances the effects of topaz, acting as an additional conductor for topazes energy. Topaz is particularly powerful when combined with Amethyst.

• Turquoise
  Power stone of truth, to be honest with yourself and to walk your talk. Helps analytical thinking and communication. Opens the heart chakra for giving and receiving. Absorbs negativity. Great grounding stone.

How to Use Your Crystals

The first step is clarify your intention. Ask yourself what is this grid for? Sit quietly for a moment. Find your center or that quiet place where you are completely focused and still. Be as specific and clear on your intention as you can be. Remember, the grid will be a tool to amplify these thoughts, feelings and/or intents, so you want to state your intention with absolute clarity.

The second step is to choose the location where the grid is going to be held.

Third is to clear that place and your self from any negative energy that might be in that location. You may burn incense or sage to smudge the area, go around with a bell or singing bowl, or use another cleansing technique.

The fourth step is to make a grid. A grid helps you focus your intention using the energy of crystals to amplify and manifest that intention. Consider where you are going to locate your grid as you would like your grid to stay in tact for a while, undisturbed.

There is no right or wrong way. Size and number or stones is up to you. Leave some space between stones. If they roll off, consider that perhaps they are moving to a better position! Follow your instinct. A thought for consideration: use the Rose Quartz as the center stone if you wish to imbue the environment with overall abundance energies.

The fifth step, once the grid is set up to your liking, is to activate the grid by using a quartz wand and point to the central crystal and then out to each crystal in the grid. Go in one direction, and hold the perfect vision of what you want while you are doing this, not allowing any negative thought come into the process.

I made the grid in the picture about a week ago for demonstration purposes, and … I am happy to report that every single day since I have received either a check, found money that I’d forgotten about, or received statements of my savings. This article inspired me to go to the rock shop and buy some more goodies. Some new ones temporarily belong to the grid too, although I am not sure if the grid is stronger as the money good luck started from the get go.

In this last article on flying star feng shui for 2008, I continue to reveal how these flying stars affect every household and office. You will also learn more about Grand Duke Jupiter and the 3 Killings as well as feng shui enhancers and cures you can use to boost the good energy and disperse the negative ones.

Let’s continue with the west sector.

West

The 1 white star from period 8 amplifies the energy of the 3 argumentative jade star in the west sector. More legal issues, arguments, fights expected, which may be hard to resolve.

Northwest

Grand Duke Jupiter

In 2008, the water nature Grand Duke Jupiter resides in the north. For those unaware of this powerful god of the land, let me share more information with you.

According to ancient text, the ruling Grand Duke Jupiter of the year is the presiding god, taking charge of all earthly issues. Every year, believers make offering to the grand duke hoping for a smooth and safe year ahead.

After 4th February 2008, there should not be any more renovation or construction activities in the northern sector of the house or office.

Those born under the Chinese zodiac sign of rat, goat, horse, rooster and rabbit are affected by the energy of the grand duke in 2008.

Any external construction work in the South can inflict the occupants with the negative energy of the 3 killings. This is also true for the case of the grand duke.

Those conflicting with the energy of the 3 killings may suffer from health related issues, like falling sick frequently, suffering from deteriorating health condition or meeting with accident. Office and study room located in the Southern sector of the house or building should be relocated. If not possible, then for the minimum, apply feng shui cures to weaken the energy.

Traditional way of resolving the negative energy of the 3 killings involves displaying 3 “Qi Lin” facing these clusters of energy. Since the 3 killings are 3 clusters of negative energy, hence the equal number of “Qi Lin” is needed. In 2008, this means the “Qi Lin” should face the South direction.
