Again, in the vain of sharing something more personal about me: many of you know that besides being a Reiki Master, I also paint healing art. As I am just fulfilling a print order for one of my favorite paintings, the Medicine Buddha, I thought to tell you a bit about how I make my art, as well as share the blessings of the Medicine Buddha.
Fine Art of the Healing Buddha
This painting is a close-up of a Medicine Buddha Thankha painting. Therefore I choose to follow traditional thankha painting practices. Thankha painters meditate on the meaning and the power of the deity while painting.
The Medicine Buddha is the healing Buddha. He is a very powerful and important deity in Tibetan Buddhism. While everyone can pray to the Medicine Buddha, a Rimpoche (high lama) can attune individuals to the Medicine Buddha, making their prayers to the Medicine Buddha more powerful.
In my case, first studied the Medicine Buddha (oh, and I have still a lot more to learn…) and obtained Medicine Buddha attunement. Then while painting, I alternated sending Reiki to the painting, reciting the Medicine Buddha prayer and the Medicine Buddha seed mantra. It took 2 months to complete this painting.

Hi Astrid!
I am a Reiki Master Teacher in Harpswell, Maine. I’m just setting up my Reiki practice. I am a practicing Buddhist — my teacher is Rinpoche Lobzang Tsetan, a friend of the Dalai Lama’s. He is Abbot of the Tashi Lhunpo monastery in India and also the founder of the Siddhartha School (for Tibetan children) in Ladakh, India.
I too chant to the Medicine Buddha, but would love to be attuned to him. Do you know of a Lama who can do this with me? Rinpoche read to me from one of his Tibetan texts about administering Reiki (white light). I’d like to bring my Buddhist energy to my Reiki practice.
Thanks!
Kate
